The Connecticut History Day State Contest is the next step for students who place in the top three at one of the six Regional Contests held throughout March and April. Students who place in the top two at the State Contest are invited to attend the National History Day Contest.

What to Expect During the contest

Contest Day is an exciting and generally long day! Students arrive for registration between 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. and the day concludes with the awards ceremony that usually ends around 2:30 p.m.

What to Bring: Students must bring four copies of all paperwork unless they have created Websites. For those participating in the Documentary category, bring your DVD and/or thumb drive and, if you can, bring a laptop as a backup.

Between meeting other NHD students, checking out the projects and hanging out with old and new friends, you might want to consider bringing along:

  •   *A book or other reading material

  •   *Homework

  •   *A game or playing cards

*In addition, at some venues there may be some entertainment options like a movie.

The Food Situation:
You’re probably going to get hungry. We suggest packing a lunch or snacks.

The Wi-Fi Situation: For those bringing laptops or other electronic devices, please be advised we cannot guarantee Wi-Fi service.

Student History Day projects are judged by teams of volunteer judges. All judging at History Day is done on a consensus basis and judges' decisions are final. Judges are recruited from the local community; they are educators, historians, curators, video producers, writers, lawyers, and business people with a love of history and education.

 Why volunteer to judge?

*It's fun
*Get to meet some of CT's outstanding youth
 *Community Involvement
 *Meet interesting people
