How To Participate (District Contests)

Registration for all contests takes place ONLINE. TEACHERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REGISTERING THEIR STUDENTS FOR THE DISTRICT CONTESTS. Students should not register for the district contest themselves, but they will be able to log in to their account to verify entry information if they choose. Students working independently without teacher support should contact the History Day state coordinator at 860-236-5621 ext. 252 or history_day@chs.org.

Participation is open to students in grades 6-12 in public, private, and home schools as well as students working with a mentor outside of a school setting.

1.  Go to the Online Registration page and select your District Contest.
 
2.  Detailed instructions are available on the registration site. Set up your account and enter all of your students’ registration information, including:
 
a. Division
b. Category
c. Entry Title
d. Student Name & Phone #
 
3.  When you have entered all of your students’ information, click on “Ready to Pay?” and follow the payment steps. You will be asked to mail the registration fee of $5 per student to the address below (payment must be received before the day of the district contest). Checks should be made payable to the Connecticut Historical Society. ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSES AT 11:59PM ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2010. Late registrations will not be accepted.

4.  Before and after the registration process students should be researching and preparing their entries for the district contest. Students must choose a topic based on the 2010 annual theme: Innovation in History: Impact and Change.

5.  Students present their projects at their District Competition on Saturday, March 20 in Manchester, Mansfield, New Haven, Stamford, or Torrington.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners at each district are invited to the state competition on May 8, 2010.
